Once the cord blood unit and your blood sample have arrived at our laboratory, a number of tests will be carried out.
Your blood sample will be tested to make sure that there isn't any kind of virus that could affect how your baby's cord blood stem cells are managed or stored.
Your baby's cord blood will be tested to identify how many stem cells it contains and their condition.
When we know that everything is ok, the stem cell unit is then placed in safe storage. The maternal blood sample isn't kept as it's only used to check there are no viruses that could affect how your baby's cord blood stem cells are managed or stored.
Once all the testing is complete- this usually takes 4 week, or less- we'll be in touch with you to advise you how we'll finish the process of banking your baby's cord blood.
